Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Berlin-Mitte

Bundestag, Abgeordnetenhaus, Bezirksverordnetenversammlung.

Also: Am 26.09.2021 grün wählen: Im Bund, Land und Bezirk!

Information for EU citizens

The next Berlin state election will be held on September 26th. Along with electing Germany's federal parliament (Bundestag) Berlin's House of Representatives (Abgeordnetenhaus), voting will also take place in all 12 of Berlin's districts for the district council elections (Bezirksverordnetenversammlungen). As an EU citizen living in Berlin you are entitled to vote!

Information in English

Are you an EU citizen living in Berlin? You are entitled to vote in the upcoming district election!

Who will be elected with your vote?

The Bezirksverordnetenversammlungen (BVV) is the district government. It determines the guidelines for administrative policies, encourages actions whilst overseeing the political dealings of the district authority through a district mayor and municipal councillors. The district mayor and municipal councillors are elected by secret ballot by the BVV.

On September 26th 2021, more than 20 different parties, political groups and individual applicants will stand as candidates for the BVV in Mitte.

How does it work?

Every EU citizen who fulfills the criteria (at least 16 years of age on September 26th, registered residence (Anmeldung) in Berlin) will automatically receive a polling card (Wahlschein). On the polling card you will find the address of the polling station where you are registered.

Your polling station will be no more than a five to ten minutes’ walk from your residence. You will have to bring a proof of identity (ID card or passport) and your polling card to the station.

Unfortunately, so far only very few EU citizens in Berlin have made use of their right to vote. Therefore, dear EU and Mitte-citizens, the Green Party want to encourage you to vote: use this opportunity to exercise your democratic powers as an EU citizen and have a say in how the districts (Bezirke) are run.

Last but not least, the Greens will continue to fight for the extension of voting rights to all residents of Mitte, including those who do not hold an EU passport but have been living in Germany for generations.
